It was once discussed between us[1], and preliminary attempts had some
difficulties. Maybe ellaboration is possible, but I'm not sure.

Ok, reading these posts 3 years later reminded
me of poet Rimbaud "Je est un autre" which perhaps
translates into "I is someone else".
Conclusion seems to have been
- that perhaps it is feasible
at AUCTeX level but this would mean some update
to LaTeX aspects of preview functionality which
may or may not be feasible without breaking other
things... and that there were reasons why David
opted for Postscript approach,
- that perhaps it was feasible to change
Postscript code injection but this depended
on upstream gs evolutions
No wonder this got stalled as it seems to require
combination of a lot of expertise...
