Well, the intention of LaTeX-math-mode is that typing e.g. <`b> is much faster than typing <\beta>. The same is true for typing <C-x 8 RET beta>. Of course you have to use <C-x 8 RET> anyway, since many mathematical symbols are not available through abbreviations in LaTeX-math-mode. But greek characters are available, since they are so common in math equations. Andreas
