This is indeed strange. What do see in the echo area when you do:
C-c C-c View RET
Emacs should show something like this:
View command: ...

Can you please elaborate? After doing 'emacs -Q' and eval'ing:

AUCTeX should work if properly installed from ELPA.

I see only `TeX-view' and `TeX-view-mouse' as well.
