Let's really dig in to Tolkiin and Lord of the Rings,

So, i'm really in a lord of the rings kind of mood yet again. This seems to happen every year or two around this time and the holiday season. I plan on re reading the series but i wanted to ask about more j r r literature like Lost Tales. Are the other middle earth books worth reading? I have known such books have been around a while, i just never got in to them. In my humble oppinion, movies aside, lord of the rings has been my most pleasurable reading experience to date. Anyone else feel the same, other thoughts? Also, do books like Lost Tales go in to the back story of the dwarves or Thorin? Just curious, as i'm honestly facinated with the Middle Earth history.
