Re: ATTN: Those with Spotify premium and Windows (beta testers wanted)

Hi Balliol. Thank you for the feedback and those suggestions. Some of them I planned to do for the next release, though your comments have inspired me for which approach to take. So hopefully you'll see a few of those in the coming months.

This code is written in CSharp (of the .NET framework). The library I'm using is a C library called Libspotify. In turn, this is wrapped in an open source wrapper called Libspotify.NET. There's a few other libraries in there for various shinanigans, but that's the core of it. If that hasn't scared you off, I'm happy to take on help with this.

Aaron, I agree that the fact this project exists represents a problem in itself. One that may get resolved one day, but that's probably misplaced optimism. But I didn't want to keep memorising my way around the Spotify desktop client and if I could do something, I wanted to try. I never expected anything from Spotify really, I doubt they even know this a pp exists. But I didn't write it for them, I wrote it for myself and anybody else in my position who wants access to a streaming music service. I doubt this will sell any premium accounts for Spotify, but if anyone already has it, this gives them a new way to make use of it. Well, that's the theory anyway smile

Sebby, perhaps, but I hate iTunes, because it hates Windows. If iTunes Radio comes as a standalone app that is both accessible and better than iTunes, I might reconsider my Spotify account for the reasons you gave. Again, possibly just optimism. And will they do monthly subscriptions? Or will people have to buy every song first? I've not heard much about it yet.

Fastfinge, that's fair enough, I never set out to force people to use Spotify. Everybody should use the service that fits them best. In my case, we had Spotify pretty much from the get go in the UK, before rdio existed. My playlists are already there and most of my friends use Spotify, most haven't heard of rdio yet. And Spotify lets me send local files to my phone, which I don't believe rdio can. So Spotify suits me better and I'm sure there are others out there who might want to use it. But that's not to say that rdio shouldn't be your music fix of choice.

Sorry for the long post.
