I've never had or heard of those particular problems, but I've also moved away from Microsoft office since 2007 (where something as simple as Word got so ridiculously heavy I had to switch my computer to open docs in wordpad just to keep it from freezing) and ribbons abounds. Which is to say I suspect it's mostly an Office problem.
