no, the lockpicking kit is not used to open the hatchit door, it is used to open the chest when you open the hatchit door.
it's located around the sack, so you must turn and walk some steps and scan what is ahead of you. also, make sure that the sound of the beakons is slightly on your left.
after you found the door, walk forward and press enter on the chest. then, you will hear series of tones, try to match it and the chest will open and you will get a bag.
then go back to the bridge and press enter on the lever and then you will be taken to the castle.
