Exactly. From the outside, yes, it does seem like these websites are hosting apps as a convenience. And yes, that may be true in some ways. But think for a moment, if they were doing it just for convenience, would they be hosting! the apps, and sometimes even offering custom downloaders for them, or would they instead just redirect you to the developer's website like audiogames.net does? Just imagine for a moment here, that audiogames.net actually hosted all the games on this site. Setup files, everything. They in some way had the means to do it. But those games are still just on the dev's website, but now all of a sudden audiogames.net game setup files have their own downloader, with banners, ads, and everything. Now that's far from reality since we know audiogames isn't like these unnecessary download sites like mac update, but if it was, where would the smart people go to download the games? Developer's websites. And this place would only be a forum and people would just lose interest in downloading these files from audiogames.net. But then there are some people, who are just looking for a quick fix, and will just download the software, without regard to file size, for example if it's in the kilobyte range, it is almost unarguably either a virus, or a custom downloader. Or without regard to the fact that the setup doesn't look as it should, especially some sighted people who don't have to worry about object navigation. People like that, are what these companies mac update and sophtonic take advantage of. Well if they're just gonna keep downloading, then let's see if they notice this icing on the cake, if you will.
