Something to keep in mind is that while the syntax of languages may vary, all programing languages are often very similar to one another in function, they all have Classes, Functions, Loops, Lists, Variables, If/Else, etc. In this sense, learning one language will make it easier to learn others because of these similarities. As well, some languages are used more often than others, the more common ones being Java, Python, C/C++, C#, Objective-C, Ruby, PHP, SQL, and _javascript_. Of those Python is considered the easiest to learn because of its clean syntax and versatility, and is often taught in schools, colleges, and universities.
Opinions on which language is the best or which to start with however is often a source of endless debate. People are free to choose whichever language makes them most comfortable, though I would still recommend Python for beginners.
