Re: jaws leesey games

@Superb: I agree. And, while this may come off harsh I'm gonna say it anyway, people like this, asking to be entitled, they're holding the stereotype about blind people being entitled to be accurate. Not all blind people, but some. Some people here take audio games for granted, of which they're not. This is why you see some people cracking audio games like no one's business. They think, oh, just one lost sale out of how many, that one! counts just as much as anything else. However unfair this may seem, this is part of the reason why Philip sold q9 off to Leasey. This however wouldn't apply to newer members of the community who weren't around for all of the 6 or some years the game was sold. You're lucky he's still developing games, even if they are exclusive for now. I don't see Philip as the type of person that would quit easily, certainly not. But some other devs have utterly quit because their games have been cracked, and there wasn& #039;t enough sales. In deed it's not just about sales either, it's about supporting the dev. The main point is the fact that some people take audiogames for granted like mainstream games where there's millions around. every game counts and should be enjoyed as much as possible while it lasts, and hopefully for years to come. The difference between us and them, is, that we do take audio games for granted, but the moment they turn exclusive people go into rage-fits. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame anyone for being angry, but go about it in a much more civil way, please. And now I'm gonna post what I said on twitter,, because this is not the first time this has happened, this is not the first time I, or other members of the forum, or even Bryan has had to approach this within another fit, and it seems like lots of people don't know how to go around emailing Hartgen the right way about this whole thing. To anyone looking to send an email to hartgen consultancy about the Leasey games. Even though it's unfortunate the non-Jaws users, including me, currently can't get the games, I'm siding with the people that laugh at some of the emails that don't approach that matter in a professional matter. So, I thought I might as well give some tips to people who have already done, or are considering, sending off an email to Bryan about the games. So, for starters, stuff the names these companies have been given. Greedom Science-fiction, hard-gen Consultancy, what have you. Stuf it all. Save that for any jaws vs nvda, or otherwise comedic bits that verse the two against each other. Don't get me wrong, those bits are amusing, but comedy is its own thing, the views and opinions expressed are not meant to be taken seriously, and we all know that. Now when you go posting those names on forums, which I will admit, I've done before out of agravation, and then go email Hartgen with an email that isnt much more civil t han the forum posts, that is exactly how to get him to read the message, or even the subject line for that matter, laugh it off, and move on. Like I said, I do admit I've done it before, but we all do eventually, and there's just a point in time where you have to learn to stop. There are ways of expressing frustration towards a company without the fake names, take as an example the very well written "What did I Just Agree To?" article about the Freedom Scientific license agreement, which had some very valid points, without the names we see on the forums. Even on twitter, we do have bits like the one made in honor of the infamous ticking clock of doom in the jaws installation, but again, those are bits. When it's an actual discussion, names like that just look immature, and a company would definitely not take you seriously if names like that were used. Here's number 2. Don't be so blunt as to say, I can't buy leasey beca use I can't afford Jaws, and nvda is better. Yes, it is true that nvda does surpass jaws in a lot of areas. But when you're dealing with a company that has been working with Jaws for many years now, discrediting their prefered product isn't the way to go, reason being that said product has proven successful for Hartgen Consultancy. Besides, all you're doing is playing Captain Obvious. We all know, if you can't afford Jaws, you'll be using another screen reader, whether that be nvda, system access, zheng-du screen reader if you're familiar with that, the list goes on. We all know that if you can't buy Leasey, you aren't using jaws. Obviously if you bought leasey it would be useless to you if you didn't use jaws. So simply saying, I am not a user  of Jaws, so thus cannot buy the Leasey application, should be enough. Third, don't go asking for the games for free. Not everyone has done this, but some have. As has been said befo re, people who do business, will typically stay that way. Unless you conduct good business with them, they're less likely to return the favor, much less take the messages seriously. For example, you ask for Leasey for nvda, so you can have the games. Sure, you could still say, oh I'll gladly pay for leasey for nvda, but you must remember that the nvda question has already been answered a long time ago. You could try to reason with them and propose a good offer for what you think the games module stand-alone would be worth. Not that there is a stand-alone one, or that there definitely will be one, but let's think for a bit. There are several games in this module. I'm not counting the Spoonbill series and rs games, since those are freely available nonexclusively. But let's count in q9 which was originally offered as a stand-alone game, the series of games called Treasure Troll and Truffle Troll, this new My Country Place game, and the match-making puzzle thing . Let's just imagine that they were auctioned off as stand-alone for a bit. How much would you pay for them if they were? I'm thinking q9 would go for it's original price. Treasure troll and Truffle Troll, maybe around $15 put together. My Country Place, I'm not one to judge since I haven't actually tried this yet, but seeing games similar to it's kind on a smaller scale, around maybe $10 perhaps? And the match-making one, I can't say for sure. That'd be the only exclusive I'd probably actually say would be free, or at a very low price, due to the simple concept this game seems to have. Ok, so usually software as a package is discounted if you buy the whole package. I'd say, all those games combined into the module, and all future games, I'd pay between $45 and $55, give or take a little bit, for the entire games module. Sounds fair to me. The point I'm trying to get at is to think for a bit, all the time that went into pro ducing the games. I'm not saying you're guaranteed an offer to get the games module stand-alone, that would be all up to Bryan. But putting myself in his shoes, if a person actually made a fair offer were the games module ever to be distributed stand-alone, I'd not only take the message seriously, I'd be more likely to actually consider it. Whereas if it's a beggar's request for either a free games module, a leasey for nvda which we've already talked about earlier, or what have you, I'd probably shrug them off. So, there you have it, some advice I'd highly suggest you take if you're gonna send an email to Hartgen asking them about this. In fact, I think I just might send one of those emails myself.
