Sorry I can't answer your headphone question about hearing and ajusting the volume, but, I've just brought a pair of headphones called SleepPhones, there ment to be really really comfy.
I read on a forum that they helped with your condition.
it's a bit strange to navigate with a screen reader, but it can be done.
