I've used both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the Win7 PE, and they worked great. there are also a bunch of diagnostic tools included in them that you can use to do things like reset a lost password, restructure your partition table, view a list of installed devices and uninstall things that are causing you problems, and, if you use a USB drive as your installation media, you can even add your own useful applications to the programs directory. I didn't want to screw around in the bios, since I don't have any reliable tech-savvy sighted people around to help me with that, so I just used a DVD. Much simpler to boot into, but not as customizable. The point is, all hope is not lost. If your computer is fairly modern, the drivers for your sound card should be included in the PE. if not, you' ll need a USB headset or sound card to get speech from NVDA.
