What I suspect is happening here is that Your screen reader of choice is using Microsoft sound mapper as it's output. Whenever a new audio device gets added to windows, it gets made the default for some reason, and sound mapper kicks in to divert all audio out that new default device. In this case, line one. You need to change your screen reader's output back to your built in sound card or headset. Are you using NVDA by any chance?
