Here's another good reason not to use Uber.
Where I live Uber is illegal because they refuse to provide background checks on its drivers to our public transportation authorities, so they can't get a license to operate.
So how does Uber respond? Instead of providing the driver background checks that they claim they have, they refuse to provide them, probably because they don't have them. Then instruct their drivers to break the law and operate illegally. To encourage drivers to heed their request, Uber claims that the drivers will be paid extra for each ride, hazard pay? Uber also says they will pay the $700 fines the drivers are hit with if they get caught. What they don't say is that that violation goes on the drivers record regardless of who pays the fines.
Even if I was inclined to try Uber, this would be a deal killer for me. I will not knowingly support any company or person who encourages ignoring and breaking the law.
