Re: Alteraeon and many other games are blocked at my school! Any help?
One thing to keep in mind is that VPN's are going to add lag to your connection as you're essentially first sending all of your data to the VPN server, which then sends it to the game, which goes back to the VPn which goes to you. For games that aren't realtime, like RS games or the Playroom, this shouldn't be a problem. But with Alter or especially shooters like road to rage the high pings are going to either make the game unplayable or very frustratingly slow. To minimize this you'll want to pick a VPN that's close to you, and make sure to disconnect it when you're done to prevent accidentally transmitting sensitive information through it as you never know what might be logged, especially for free VPN's.
The other thing you can do, at least for some games like RTR, is ask someone to run a server on a random port that isn't blocked. In the cases where you can do this it's a much simpler process to set up, will wo rk faster and won't be as risky.
