The idea of upgrading your train isn't something I'd thought about.
Trains aren't like trucks where the driver can personalise there vehicle, the driver of a train drives the vehicle they are assigned on the route they are assigned.
A train driver gets a baseline pay irrespective of how many people get on the train so doesn't manage money as part of there job.
In the same way, upgrades to trains are done on a hole fleet basis and is decided by the management of the train company.
I could put stuff like this in but it's really is starting to move away from the concept of being close to the real world.
Progression in the game is based on badges, e.g. The government badge for visiting Westminster, Houses of Parliament, and Charing Cross for white hall.
Would be interested to hear your views on this.
