I checked this one on wikipedia and it's actually described as a romantic comedy, albeit one which is slightly adult in places, though I doubt very much it's hentai, heck in the last anime I saw, heaven's diary there was unquestionably an adult scene, and mahoromatic which is possibly one of the best and darkest relationship anime I have cene definitely has it's adult side, but that doesn't make it a hentai.
Eg, the point is basically more than people just jumping into bed with each other.
I've not personally seen Suzuka, though have heard of it, but the trope of girl best friend who likes the male main character (especially girl who tends a shrine), while the main character is enfatuated with someone with whom he has a tempestuous relationship is quite a common one in anime, my neighbor totoro, chobits, and even to an extent mahoromatic and elfen leid all have this trope, ---- though elfen Leid is anything but a comedy (it's actually bloody dark and extremely harsh, albeit it has a few fun moments).
Btw, I'll have to ask my brother his thoughts on Suzuka, since he's generally up on anime and most anime I've seen I've either pinched from him or watched with him :d.
