It is really tricky when you don't know the layout. You're stuck in a little box with a kind of half lid over the top. It's hard to explain. If you go forward, you have the half cover over the top, so you need to back up and try to jump up onto the ledge. One thing I would say is once you get out of the box, you're at either 6 or 5, then there's a small step down at 4 on the y, then another step down to a longer platform at 3. If you want to kill that lamp, you need to be on the little ledge at 4, the same height as the lamp. You can kill it with the sword, but your timing needs to be perfect. I think a better weapon is the sassamata, again don't know how to spell it. Hopefully you got this from breaking the box in the staff room where the first bunch of keys is.
