I don't remember exactly, but your long sword should have a very good chance with it if your attack stat is high enough... that is usually the case. The weapons have a base damage and usually an attack multiplier, so that sword won't do any damage to the launcher unless you have a high enough attack so that the damage value is higher than the defense value of whatever enemy you're attacking. And there is actually a way... every enemy makes a sound when you hit it, in addition to the weapon sound... so if your weapon hits the enemy but no sound plays to indicate that they're taking damage, it won't have delat any. For example, the monster generator will make a sound like a machine sparking and about to short circuit if you successfully damage it. Otherwise, you'll simply hear the sound of whatever weapon hitting something without the damage sound for whatever enemy you're whacking away at.
