As for 8-1, I have two hints.
In real life, a line of stones evenly placed in a line through a body of water serves an actual purpose. Think of what that purpose is and you'll have an idea.
If you can think of what that purpose is, there's a craftable weapon in stage 16 that should make completing this task quite doable and rather fun.
