Re: This doesn't make sence, audible book not availible in south africa.

That's the issue with Audible/Audiobooks.com/etc (I've not used Bard as it's not working for me here in the UK atm), they're all locked. The only way to get open format audiobooks/ebooks is...ahem...questionable menas. I mean, i bought the complete Mortal Instruments book series  few years ago and emailed the support, and asked for an open format to put on my phone. I was told, bluntly, to pirate it to get an open format...and that was from the support of a small time audiobook site that's not around any more. Which....says a lot rreally, it's sad when piracy gives you more control and access than buying it via legitmate means

On the subject of synths and stuff, related tangent here...I was in the US at the back end of last year, sooooo......I got to actually helpout at at  an NWS office for a few hours. It was a hey, come type stuff up for us deal, I got to hear and see firsthand how their systems work....and that setup for the NWS at least the radio side seems to, when the EAS kicks in, to do emotion. I don't know the technical back end of it but it seems to work very very well for warnings and statements, the day to day radio stuff is just a flat synth providing the weather, but once the warnings and such kick in....it's a seperate system, I'd hav to ask the fine folks in Taunton how they manage it, or ask around NWS offices, I'm sure it's written down somewhere but I'm too lazy to go check their sites and the other stuff...so at least in one regard TTS/synths can do emotion, but that my may merely be down to the way the warnings or statements are written and the gravity of, say, a tornado five miles away heading towards a townn. I just find synths in general are decent, they are certainly listenable on computers and such....

Serfdom will never, ever ever die. I mean it goes back to the dawn of currency, and trading for things really. Wage slvery....tax slavery, rates, second home taxes, Even SSI slavery in the US to a point.

Lastly...yeah,I'm al all for open formats but it won't work because publishers and rights holders want control. It's taken a change of ownsership for FOM to allow F1 footage on Youtube, before Liberty took over, FOM automatically gave a copyright strike to channels even showing a second of F1 footage. This created the bizarre situation of FOM trying to assert copyright on a series they don't own, because that series used a snippet of F1 footage in their opening of a broadcast. The then ALMS (now part of IMSA again) said in a comment, quote

The Petit Le Mans video was taken down due to using a few seconds of F1 footage. We're working with FOM but they seem to think they own any and all F1 footage. It's our series, our TV deal. We own the copyright to it and it's on our channel

IIRC that was resolved with said F1 footage staying in.

I just want an open, standard format that's not patent encumbered and works across platforms personally, really...I'm all for open standardization, makes it easier in the long run.

One more thing. Explain how an ebook is buyable on a website but the audiobook isn't on any audiobook sites in the US/Canada/Europe/Oz/etc and the only way to get the audiobook is to, again, pirate it. You can't legitimately purchase this audiobook in question (a science book by the way) but you can buy the ebook perfectly fine....it's just asinine and stupidly backwards. Oh and one more....public domain is not subject to copyright or region locking. Yes, sites have tried to geoblock public domain works or assert copyright over them in audiobook form. It's public domain..... e
