Interesting muds:thoughts/rants/etc

Hello all:
I've played a ton of different muds in the past and wanted to kind of run things down for people looking for a new mud to play.

I first started out on GWSE and really enjoyed the mud. It actually has to be one of my favorites until it went down. Also ran by the same people were SC (more later).

Miriani: I was banned for something totally stupid, for the second time. The first was because another person with my name was attacking their servers and Parias insisted it was me. APart from the bad administration though, I've found the griefing and attempts at rp pretty aweful. I also tend to like muds with more customization and eventually with miriani you have everything everyone else does and the difference is points and credits.

Aard: Not an aweful mud, I didn't really care particularly for the syntax stuff sometimes. Even if you would read room descriptions carefully there was stuff missing that you couldn't figure out without as king for help. Lasher's rants about stabbing people with a fork were a bit sad, as well as the fact that decent equipment costed so much. If you don't mind questing at level 1 for a long time to get good eq and selling tp though, you can easily get a full set of quest eq and enchant eq for all the levels worth getting gear at by your second remort.

Alter Aeon: I understand this is pretty popular, but I was driven away by a few factors. First I never really much cared for Dentin's attitude toward people. I remember one time I complained about a player breaking a rule (it was starla or one of her alts) and his response was something along the lines of she's to stupid to punish. I liked some of the changes in the mud when I played and felt like others were just a dumbing down. There also seemed to be a lot of politics going on in terms of how you got builder--there were builders like Kroza that just had the char to test out weapons and learn more mechanics. My other complaint was having to kill something 90 times to make an item load. While it wasn't so bad, I really really would've liked to see "This mob might load x" or something, because otherwise without running in huge groups and happening to see it load you had no clue. On the up side, some of the areas were pretty well designed and I loved the quests. I also liked the classless builds, though again there wasn't much room for customization.

Project bob: Perhaps one of the best muds I've played, it tends to go down sometimes. It is pretty much abandoned at this point, with the admins not really caring to do anything or fix anything. I know it could go down and stay down at any time, but I play because I love the insane amount of customizations available to me.

Star Conquest: a bit more in depth from Miriani, the hosts can be a bit harsh sometimes. Some of the enforced RP just gives specific players ammo to rant and gain favor, but I do like the rules in that they are different and it is much better managed from Miriani. There is also a lot more room for ship customization, if that's what you're into, which I really like. I also do like the RP aspect, though I haven't really taken it to the point of buying 90 outfits and going to dinner; there's a point when it feels a bit to much like real life. The players are really cool for the most part, and I love the work the hosts put into creating events. My only real gripe, at least to a point is the zealous attitude they take toward the mention of skype or getting in touch with players out of game over oocsay. While I understand they don't want conglomerations of players on Skype like Miriani had simply because it shatters RP, it would be really nice to be able to talk to some of these people out of games. I feel like most people that care about RP won't go that route anyway.

Godwars II:
This again is one of the better games I've actually played. While KaVir doesn't add to it much and there are a lot of half finished projects, the depth of customization is again awesome. Griefing happens, so if you don't like getting killed I recommend avoiding it.
