Here is more info about the bots:
The two that come with the free game, Beginner Betty and Medium Marge have the vocabulary of about a 10 year old.
The aditional AI bots get to use more and more obscure words. SpellStack Sally, the smartest, gets to use the whole dictionary on you. They also try to go after breaking your words more (and protect themselves from getting their letters broken).
