They are just for collecting. You can also unlock achievements in the game as well, they show up under the achievements link. But yeah, the cards don't actually do anything, they're just there to look pretty I guess and for you to trade with others. I imagine if you had some rarer cards you could probably sell them or something, but I don't think skullgirls has any of those.
