There is a statistic but other people can't see it and you could reset it at any time. So it's just for fun and has no significance whatsoever. So no, there is absolutely no downside to play online. One thing though. The e command locks and unlocks your mouse horizontally. If you lock your mouse with e then the command will also re-orientate your view to a perfect 90 degrees angle. This does not work online because it is considered a cheat and could be used to create aiming helps that put you on an advantage over other players. So I would suggest to keep your mouse locked online. Otherwise there is no way to move your view back to looking straight ahead and you might end up looking at the ground or in the sky.
