Re: is there any way i can play music with reaper without a midi keyboard
Hi,
I just installed reaper the other day for the upcoming sound design course, so decided I'd give this a goI have tried to do what you guys have suggested here, but for some reason when I press alt b and try to play, no sound is heard.
using a desktop amd 2600x , default mobo soundcard (that is what's already on the motherboard) with wasapi thingy selected, win10 64bit. have tried different vsts in the instruments catogry usb headset with mic. tried with 3.5mm jack speakers too still couldn't here anything.
I am able to here myself when the headset is connected and f7 f8 is pressed without the virtual midiAny ideas as to what could be going wrong there?

Hey,
Make sure you have your midi channel set to 1 and your Octive on a normal value.
Midi channel is adjusted using Up and Down Arrow Keys And The octive selection is done using Left and Right arrow keys.
You can check the results by entering screen review in NVDA, Or root jaws to pc in Jaws.
Channel number is shown in the virtual midi keyboard near the bottom of the screen as a single number, and your octive selection is understandable by looking at the very bottom line of the virtual midi keyboard in the center note value.
These keys function only when Virtual midi keyboard is openned.
Also, From your preferences menu (Openned with Control + P), navigate to the device section and do the followings:
First, change your sound system to wave out. That's the recommended sound system to be used.
second, set your buffer size to something between 6 and 10 according to your system specs.
Third, set the X value (Which is the next field after the buffer size) to something between 180 and 220, According to your system specs again.
The second part of my explanation helps you reduce the latency caused by your sound carde in a significant way.
