Well, this is a good a reason as any. From the Skype User Voice forums.
"We hear you? These skype-people do not get anything. Hey, do you really not understand? The problem is electron. The problem is that the new version of skype, which you're moving us onto, does literally not exist. Rather exists there a *********, *************, ****** webpage, which, for the sake of even more inefficiency, comes with its own browser. So you're pretty much packaging a browser and claiming it was a desktop program. None in this world would have a problem with upgrading to a newer, better skype if it existed. But what we want is a program. Programs are generally written in programming languages, like C or c++, not in markup languages. And we want a program. Not a webpage, not an app, just a standard windows-program. Is it really so hard to understand that for the maker of windows? Really? The maker of Windows, which pretty much brought programs into the world, doesn't know what a program is? really?"
So, yeah. That's why a lot of us still try to use Skype 7 I'm sure. We want an actual application, not a clunky web interface and not some ridiculous Snapchat/Facebook/Slack knockoff. For the record, I'm not trying to use Skype 7 after being force upgraded to 8, because they'll just shut it off eventually.
