Regarding windows update assistant safety: try to always back up your system before applying larger updates. As the Windows 10 1809 update showed, people lost important files and folders, even personal documents after updating. Windows 10 still doesn't have a real update assistant, its more like an entirely new installation with all remaining files getting copied back after the installation finished, so there might be bugs in there that will end up getting rid of files during the process.
If it comes to the location Macrium Reflect stores your data, thats entirely up to you. Macrium Reflect supports alot of targets, a specific file/folder location, FTP and WebDAV, but also cloud services like Dropbox if i'm not wrong.
