You could shut down the guest when you're done with it from alt+f4, though that will display an error when the guest closes because you're technically connected to it through Remote Desktop. Also, even though your laptop may not have a specific pause key, it may be mapped to a function key. If you don't have a manual for your laptop, try pressing function and random keys, you may find that the pause key is mapped to something.
