Re: Presenting Master of Orion, a space strategy game
Yes, once you pick your banner, you’ll be at a final screen where you can change the make up of the game a bit, pick specific other empires, and so forth. If you press ?, The game will show a list of commands, I think the one to continue on is S. ? Is the key you want to use on the next screen as well, to read the full list of commands, but the one you want to use for starters is V, to view your surroundings. Try, for instants, V 4, which will show a list of world within 4 parsecs of your colonies, or in this case, just the capital. From there, you can use the FS, fleetsend, command to send ships to those worlds. The command is FS world number, followed by the numbers of each type of ship you want to send, at the start you have a couple of scouts in the colony ship. It’s FS world number and then 1 to send one scout, and you can use the fleet command to see what units you have and where they are. For instance, "fs 47 1," would send a scout to star 47. You can just do "fs 47" to send everything on one planet to another, or if you only have one ship, say.
Just a tip, when you get a “establish a new colony?“ Prompt, once you press why, you’ll be on a screen which will basically ask you for the name of the colony, but it isn’t always clear but that’s what is being asked. Just hit enter again, and you’ll be on the turn prompt, with the colony name chosen. also, be aware that you can use either names or numbers to refer to stars and worlds, at the start you just use star numbers, you might also be able to use XY coordinates, but I have never tried.
Hope this helps, and if it would be useful I can do a sample session tomorrow, just to show how things work.
