What caused you to restart? The game is built in such a way that there's no part where you could get stuck with no way to proceed because of past actions. I did send you a few more hints in a PM BTW, but completely forgot to write up a detailed guide. Let me know if you need it when you get to that part again.
If you are on Windows, there actually is a way to speed the speech up, but it's definitely not an obvious one. You'll have to navigate to your Windows folder, usually on C:\Windows. Then go to System32 and find the file named Control. So, C:\Windows\System32\control.exe
Before you start to worry what the hell I'm making you open, this's just the control panel. Specifically, the 32 bit version. I've no clue why, but changing speech settings the normal, 64 bit Control Panel in Windows doesn't work.
Anyway, just find the text to speech settings and change them to whatever you prefer. Note that unfortunately, a lot of voices aren't available in the 32 bit version. But you can at least raise the speed and switch to Microsoft David, which's not half bad for a Microsoft voice.
