Are you still on XP?
I intend to stay with XP as long as possible, and dont think any "improvements" in Windows 8/8.1 are necessarily any good for blind users.
How do you run XP on SSD?
If you can live wityh XP in a vvirtual environment, trimming is something the host operating system can manage.
The fact that computer hardware and virtualization has come so far is the reason why I think Windows XP will live longer than Windows 98.
I have just found out how I can run trial software forever in a virtual machine by freezing the time.
