You absolutely can use the VIPMud with Alter Aeon. I used it myself many moons ago before the Dclient was developed.
We have two sets, I prefer Nerdball's but Dime's is smaller and quicker to download. Here's a link:

Nerdball's installation instructions are in a readme file right there in the directory. The instructions for Dime's version is in the zip archive, you'll have to download it and open it up to read them.
