Agreed. Pokémon does this (Runaway is definitely a thing), and worse. Illuminate, for instance, does nothing except increase the number of wild encounters. Pickup mostly floods your inventory with random items, and only gets good at higher levels. Plus and Minus are super, super situational. Getaway is not a good ability, and Birdbrain is definitely better. The good news is, once you finish the main game it does not take long to jack up a new manamon if you want to. Or you could just breed and level up a manamon who doesn't have the ability you dislike.
The only ability I straight-up dislike in this game (there are many I'm meh about) is Erratic Battler. Busted. Like worse than Slow Start on Regigigas or even Truant on Slaking. Because one thing that pokemon does better than manamon is let some creatures trick abilities or even items onto foes or allies. Since there's no way to remove Erratic Battler or stick your foe with it, it just crushes those manamon who are saddled with it. GG, Slothegor and Werewolfsyre. You could have been good.
