That question about favorite games is hard to answer, because i tend to get into moods for one game or another and bang on it exclusively for a couple months and then burn out. I've been known to love roguelike games in general, NetHack and Dungeon Crawl for instance, but also have just been spending a long while with some ancient text-based war games from the 80s, which are delightful if a bit hard to play without a DOS emulator.
To bring it back to space strategy games in particular, what is your screen resolution? Aurora has a minimum required 1280x800, and ideally 1280x1024. If you have anything larger than either of those you will be fine, but something like 1366x768 will not.
