Yeah, part of the fun is just going along for the ride. Best to engage with the story it gives you rather than fight it at every turn, you'll have much more fun that way. You'd be surprised at the plot twists it comes up with, I once made up a story about someone sitting at their computer and hearing rumbling noises outside, only to have that turn into an active shooter going through a town who was also a wizard for some reason.
