For the record, I did manage to get past that stupid floor 7 thing on Ascendance Path, but it is a bug of some sort because I did it several times correctly and it didn't work, and I don't know if it was closing the game out and opening it later or leaving the floor and coming back to it that fixed it, because I did both, but once I did that, the same thing I was doing before worked perfectly. So, while it does work, you can't just assume that if it doesn't work, it's user error. As to how to reproduce it, I have no idea, but something did go wonky there.
That said, once I completed that, the rest was gravy, and I wasted Mercilla in the master stadium. Now just have the postgame stuff, unless I do it with another team after another playthrough, which I may do, but I will still see if I can catch some decent breedable creatures to use in my new team.
