That depends entirely upon how serious the virus gets. Some people get it, have mild symptoms and, so far as I'm aware, have no long-term damage at all.
But yeah, if you get something like this, and you get to the final stage of the disease where you're gasping for breath and your alveolae are all working too hard, then you're definitely going to injure your lungs. The neat thing about lungs is that sometimes they can recover. Someone who smokes for a long time and then quits will gradually see an increase in lung function; the lungs may never go back to pristine condition, but they'll definitely bounce back a bit when not under the onslaught of constant carcinogens.
