Re: defeating the nightmare
I used to have nightmares, although not in a regular cycle; and what I did was that I just let them go, without paying much attention to them. I even had nightmares that would come up in series, which was the funniest thing, and I just found out that the best course of action was to ignore them. I didn't play any FPS/action games and such; my games would be school and friends and I would not watch anything that contained strong language or intimidating stuff.
I would still say that you are not recommended at this stage to watch anything like a horror film or play FPS games, as there is an outside chance that the actions and scenes could come up in your dreams; maybe it's a good idea to end your day by watching something entertaining or talking to your friends, though frankly speaking I don't strongly believe that what I am recommending is valid based on what I have passed and what people who have talked to me about these experiences have passed. I think it is quite important for you at the moment to keep calm and to not think about these dreams too much. It just makes the matters worse.
