Re: Aurora 4X, Back to More Accessible Stars

Hi ALl,

There's only one place where object nav is definitely required, and that's if you want to check a text readout giving fleet position information. This is useful in some situations if you need to know where objects are relative to one another, but not required for movement by any means.

Object nav is useful in a couple other cases, such as ship design. Basically, if you maximize the window, you can use object nav to explore the tree view of components, and double-click on any you want to add to your ship. This is one area where you need to use NVDA's mouse keys, as compared to just tab and enter.

So the sequence goes something like this.

1. Design a component, such as engines or sensors.
2. Open the class design window.
3. Press the button to create a new class, and then optionally rename it.
4. Go to the components tree view, and make sure the window is maximized. Explore it with object nav to find the component you want.
5. Press nVda-numpad-/ to route the mouse to the component you want, and then just numpad-slash to double click. Note that this is different for users with laptops, the shortcut is NVDA-shift-M to route the mouse and nvda-left-bracket to click.
You might have to double click a couple times to add the component, depending on what kind of ship stats you want.
6. Tab to the ship design text view and read it to confirm that your components were added.

You'll have to repeat steps 5 and 6 until you've successfully designed the ship you want.

Hadi, if you want to chime in here with anything I've missed, please feel free.
