I've not read the James potter books there Jayde, interesting you recommend them. With Slitherin, I also wonder how much of the nastiness and pureblood mania was due to a lot of Slitherin house being either deatheaters or the children of Deatheaters.
Cursed child had it's issues, but I did like the idea of Albus and Scorpeus both being slitherin, albeit that was very much post voldemort Slitherin, and I don't know how much the house got a wee bit reformed along the way.
Actually, the one house whose characteristics I have most trouble with is Grifindor, since how do you select for bravery anyway, and how do you distinguish bravery from just plane being bolshy, ---- Cormac MCClaggon anyone?
In terms of parings, Ron and Hermione you could always see coming, it's one of the few instances I can think of where an author actually does the adversarial, sparring relationship and gets it right.
