in some places, yes. fire, or sometimes the sound of the floor changes.
let's go to the forge from the courtyard, for example. you start going south... you will hear some guys screaming, and after passing them, you will walk a little in a metallic surface, it is very short, like a tiny staircase. continuing south, you will hear the sound of the forge. center it, press X, and you can start crafting items.
note that i'm playing on pc, with a controller. OCR works great here, for crafting and sometimes to know what you're getting from the chests.
