So, quick update.
I tried react OS, and followed the instructions to get sound drivers installed in VMWare, going through a very painstaking process with OCR,
And it bluescreened on boot with a processor has been disabled by the guest machine error. I tried several other drivers with either no sound or the same result.
So this is not looking good so far.
