I'd just like to revise @tward's answer in post 2.
You may, in fact, simply press CTRL + S when the live image has booted to start orca. This holds true for the actual install.
As for sticking with 12.04, @tward, you're probably right. I've installed 14.04 on a VM, and I must say I don't like some of the new things. I'd say 12.04 is the best option to stick with, for now.
As for OpenSuse, you'll probably not want to check out KSOS when its done. its based on the 13.1 release of OpenSuse, currently, but I'm thinking of changing it to the ubuntu kernal.
