first things first:
1. You insert kontakt by going to the insert menu, then use insert virtual instrument on new track. Say no to routing as that is indeed not very usable or accessible to us at the moment, but alas, drum kits could really benefit from this.
2. You use OCR, or the scripts, from access4music, or whatever other means to load an instrument file into kontakt. Normally you do not need to add a library, but in some cases there will be a warning telling you that you need to do so.
3. You start to play. If you get no sound then you move onto the following
Verify that the track is armed
verify that you are sending to the correct channel (I normally set kontakt to omny mode which can be done by the scripts) If not, you need to change your channels from within your controller, or generic midi keyboard, or whatever you are using.
Verify that you have enough ram available.
