It also doesn't necessarily have to be a lot of programs starting up. Pretty much every twitter client I've run kills startup on a standard drive, i.e. not SSD. If you've got a Twitter client going, stop it from starting automatically and see if that makes a difference. That might not be something you want to do long-term, because it just means you're going to have to start it up manually, but I'd try it just to see if there's a difference or not.
