Re: Any data hoarders on here?

@17, @18: nope, sorry. I'm sharing with people I know only.

Also where are you on the blindness spectrum? Did that make setting things up any more difficult?

Setting all that stuff up is actually not the problem, most of it is accessible if you get the right hardware. Synology is accessible, at least most of it, I managed to get some Zyxel managed switches which are accessible as well so I could go and create a link between two network ports so I could speed up the connection to my NAS, and thats almost it.
The most cumbersome part was the money, as always. The NAS itself is something like $700 without hard drives, the expansion unit another $500 without drives, and each drive is about $250.
Kinda alot of money, just don't think about it tongue.

So I've always kind of looked down on people who hoard data... I mean nobody can go through so much stuff, and get enjoyment from all of it, so what's the point?

You are right in that matter, you cannot watch, read or listen to all of that in a single life. For me its the fun to share with people I know and seeing them having fun with the books they can now get their hands on. I like to have the freedom to watch whatever film I like in whatever resolution, audio track, the extras, with or without audio description, audio commentary, bloopers or whatever whenever I like.

I feel like I'm missing some major point, so could someone please explain the purpose in stashing all this data, and not using subscription services like Netflix, Audible, or Spotify?

The problem with subscription services and the reason why i'm not using them that much is that you always paying for the right to watch or listen to the stuff you want, you don't own it. I already encountered a situation where I purchased an audio book from Audible and Audible lost the rights to share the audio book, so it just disappeared from my library and was gone forever. Same goes for Netflix, anything could be gone for good right now. Same goes for games within Steam, music on subscription services and so on. I like the security of having all the data at my fingertips, independent from any licensing trouble out there. There also is stuff like old audio books produced 20 years ago that won't show up on Audible soon, you'd have to get the discs, or have it lying around ripped somewhere.
Not to mention the dependency Internet.
But I guess its always a matter of preference in the end, and a matter of money to a certain degree.
Best Regards.
