@2, not quite. Some aircraft can infact reverse, not all of them though. Some can defenetly do this, either by changing the pitch of the propellers, or by using reverse thrust in planes with turbines. This does happen in real life, yes. However while most planes have the capability of taxiing back-words, it is almost never done for several reasons, some of them beeing too much noise, it can be a safety risk, among other reasons. While most aircraft use a mule, a ground vehicle that pulls the plane backwards and alines it with the runway; to go in reverse, say, from the gate, an aircraft is fully capable of moving in reverse under its own power. Most aircraft anyway. This is what happens when a large aircraft lands, reverse thrust is applied to slow the aircraft down. as for a plane going in reverse not beeing realistic... It is realistic and definitely possible for aircraft to reverse taxi.

As for @1's question,
You can reverse faster. In category 2 and 1 aircraft, after you land for the first time, when doing a task or flight with stops, you will be able to reverse faster after landing. On category 3 aircraft, put the plane in reverse, accelarate a little,then turn on autopilot, but remember to turn it off when you reach the desired reverse speed.
