It seems there is a little misunderstanding there.
The mission on Taria involves ship combat.
For this mission the game actually tells what you need.
You need the following equipment:
Traka-Class Fusion Core
Industrial Gray Goo.
When you have that, land on the planet and the captain should tell you to fight a ship.
