You can see buttons in the game normally by using TAB and SHIFT+TAB unless you accidentally hide the compass directions.
But, when you interface with the console while landed, the game asks you if you want to take off or not.
Type 1 to confirm and 2 to cancel.
As for typing, you have to type directions in full words (north, south and such).
Typing by one letter never worked for me, probably because some of these letters are used as shortcuts for other commands (s for stats, for example).
By the way Io, could you provide the list of shortcuts?
